Dr. Erin Sheppard, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC
Chair, Division of Nursing and Graduate Program Director
Dr. Erin Sheppard is the Chair of the Division of Nursing. Having earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice Summa Cum Laude at the University of South Alabama, Dr. Sheppard also practiced as a family nurse practitioner at USA Family Medicine, caring for patients across the entire lifespan, focusing on underserved populations and treating childhood obesity.
Prior to her tenure as a nurse practitioner, Dr. Sheppard worked as a labor and delivery nurse, traveling to and living in a host of different locations, including remote areas like the Navajo Nation Native American Reservation, the US Virgin Islands, and major cities with deep ethnic diversity, including San Francisco. Over the period of years she spent as a travel nurse, Dr. Sheppard adapted her nursing style to effectively mitigate language and cultural barriers, and has been able to incorporate that knowledge, along with regional differences in labor and delivery, into her obstetric and pediatric courses.
While earning her master’s degree, she founded Nire Bathery, focused on creating, designing, and manufacturing bath products and also working full time as a labor and delivery nurse. Originating in the field of nursing as a BSN graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, she was a member of the Dixie Darlings and Southern Misses Dance teams and the Delta Delta Delta social fraternity, and while in college worked at Disney World as multiple characters, including Mickey Mouse. Dr. Sheppard is a member of both Sigma Theta Tau and Omnicron Delta Kappa honor societies, the American Nurses Association, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the Alabama State Nurses Association. She and her husband are the proud parents of a toddler son and are anxiously awaiting the birth of their daughter in March 2023.
